Every day, domestic violence affects our families, neighborhoods,
and communities. And every day for nearly thirty years, RESPOND’s
doors have remained open – day and night, seven days a week, 52
weeks a year -- to women and children seeking safety and support.
RESPOND is a private agency and relies heavily on contributions
from individuals. In addition, we receive money from the Massachusetts
Department of Social Services, City of Somerville Community Block
Development Grant, City of Somerville Emergency Shelter Grant, Massachusetts
Department of Education, Violence Against Women S.T.O.P. Grant as
well as corporations and foundations. The agency does not receive
money from the United Way.
In 1999, a group of Boston artists created a 27-song CD, Respond,
which raised $125,000. In 2002, a second benefit CD, Respond
II, was released.
