Every day, domestic violence affects our families, neighborhoods, and communities. And every day for nearly thirty years, RESPOND’s doors have remained open – day and night, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year -- to women and children seeking safety and support.

RESPOND is a private agency and relies heavily on contributions from individuals. In addition, we receive money from the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, City of Somerville Community Block Development Grant, City of Somerville Emergency Shelter Grant, Massachusetts Department of Education, Violence Against Women S.T.O.P. Grant as well as corporations and foundations. The agency does not receive money from the United Way.

In 1999, a group of Boston artists created a 27-song CD, Respond, which raised $125,000. In 2002, a second benefit CD, Respond II, was released.

What RESPOND MEANS TO ME….

"A safe place to be in a time of crisis. A temporary home away from home. A supportive group filled with women at various stages of rebuilding their lives giving hope to one another. The knowledge that RESPOND will always be there for you in the future…"

-A woman in transition.
