Programs and Services
Programs and services include an emergency shelter and safe home, 24-hour intake
and referral line, comprehensive childrens services, support groups, individual
counseling, legal advocacy, community outreach and educational programs. The
majority of RESPONDs direct services are for women and their children.
However, we provide referrals for men through our 24 hour hotline as well as
provide educational programs and outreach to both women and men. (Please see
"resources" for agencies
that support men.)
Scope of Service
For more than 28 years, RESPOND has expanded its partnerships and
internal resources to address emerging community needs. Through new
outreach, training and hotline initiatives, RESPOND has reached across
city and state boundaries to develop a national and statewide presence
among domestic violence service providers. RESPOND continues to broaden
the scope of initiatives against violence to include undeserved populations
such as immigrants, persons with disabilities, lesbians, bisexuals
and transgendered people. All services are available in Spanish, English,
French and Haitian Creole.
Service Areas
RESPOND has offices in Somerville and Malden and serves these areas as well
as Everett, Melrose, Medford, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester
and Woburn, Massachusetts. RESPOND often provides services to women and their
children who reside outside these towns. The agency also conducts outreach and
preventative educational programs across the region and U.S.
Who We Serve
Each year, RESPOND serves more than 3000 women and their children. In the last
eleven years, RESPOND has assisted 29,000 women. In 2001, RESPOND answered almost
2200 hotline calls and provided shelter for 51 women and 18 children.
