Leave a Light On to let survivors of domestic violence know they are not alone.
The four women who founded RESPOND in 1976 initially began this work by opening their own homes as safe havens for women fleeing abuse. They would leave their porch light on to signal a safe place for people who needed to flee.
At a time when we’re all feeling isolated and disconnected, let’s turn on our porch lights on as a symbol of unity — united in the work to end domestic violence!
Starting Thursday, October 1, 2020 we’re asking the RESPOND community to show your support by turning on your porch light from 7PM-8PM every Thursday. Feel free to share a photo, tag RESPOND on social media, and use the hashtag #LightOnforRESPOND!
