When you think of volunteering at RESPOND, you might picture hands-on, front-line roles—helping at events or directly interacting with those in need. While these are important, there’s another side of volunteering that often goes unnoticed: the behind-the-scenes work. Tasks like stamping envelopes, assembling informational packets, and organizing supplies may seem small, but they’re the essential building blocks that keep everything running smoothly.
Think of them like the wheels of a car—they may not be in the spotlight, but without them, the car wouldn’t move. It’s this crucial, unsung work that allows the spotlight to shine on our survivors and their healing journeys.
Giving Time Instead of Resources
Volunteering at RESPOND is a form of giving – it’s giving a piece of yourself to support survivors and strengthen our community. You might not always see the immediate impact, but every small effort adds up to something powerful.
Take a big mailing appeal, for example. When hundreds of letters need to be stamped, sealed, and sorted, it’s all hands on deck. Without volunteers stepping up to help with this, staff would be pulled away from their core responsibilities during a busy time of year. Volunteers make it possible to reach more donors, raise more funds, and ultimately help more survivors access our life-changing programs. Your willingness to help with the little things make big things happen.
If you’re interested in helping out when we need a hand, let us know! We’ll add you to our volunteer list and reach out when we have a task you can assist with.
Offering Your Unique Skills
Or maybe you want to offer your unique skills: Do you have experience with photography/videography? Are you handy with a toolkit or an expert organizer?
Whatever your talent, we’d love to hear from you! While we may not need it right this moment, knowing what you can contribute helps us plan for future projects and events. Your unique abilities might be just what we need down the line—even skills you take for granted can make a world of difference to our team. If you’re interested in being involved in another way, such as joining our Events Committee, Finance Committee, or Board, let us know—we’d love to discuss how you can get involved!
A Little Help Goes a Long Way
The reality is that these less-visible tasks are often the most needed. While many people are eager to participate in community-facing activities, there’s usually a greater demand for help behind the scenes. Your time and effort—no matter how you choose to give it—move our mission forward.
If you’re ready to make an impact, we’d love to connect with you. Reach out to RESPOND to learn more about upcoming volunteer opportunities. At RESPOND, we couldn’t help as many survivors as we do, without our community of supporters.
Whether you’re the revving engine pushing us forward or the wheels turning to keep us moving, there’s a place for everyone who wants to help drive our mission. We’re incredibly grateful to have you as part of our team.
